Those schools are Elm Road Elementary School, Elsie Rogers Elementary School, Meadow’s Edge Elementary School, Moran Elementary School, and Walt Disney Elementary School. The approximate value of the books is $10,246.

2012 P-H-M Young Author’s Conference set for March 17

Corporations for Education is proud to sponsor the 2012 Young Author’s Conference. Cynthia Furlong Reynolds will be the guest author from 8:45 to 11:30 a.m. March 17 at Schmucker Middle School. For the past 20 years, Cynthia has informed and inspired teachers and students on the craft of writing. Cynthia is the author of a dozen picture books. Her titles include Rascal Makes Mischief, H is for Hoosier, Fishing for Numbers and Grammie’s Secret Cupboard.

The purpose of the Young Authors Conference is to provide an opportunity for young writers to explore written language and share their creativity with an audience. Along with sharing a personal writing piece with fellow students, all writers will have the opportunity to meet, inquire, and listen to a nationally recognized writer. Finally, students will create blank books to take home for further writing experiences. This project promotes academic excellence by allowing all children in grades K-5 the opportunity to witness first-hand an author who has made writing various genres her career. It also has the capacity to ignite passion in our young writers.

Registration is $4 per child and must be made by February 14. Students must be accompanied by a parent. To register or for more information, contact Christy Campbell at ccampbell@phm.k12.in.us

Penn High School STEM Career Academy proudly presented their innovative Gladiator-branded solutions for storage in a school setting on Dec. 15 in the Ad Center at Whirlpool headquarters.

Nine student teams’ presentations consisted of informal tabletop displays to Whirlpool employees that morning, followed by formal presentations to Whirlpool Gladiator and Innovation management.

This exciting final day followed an earlier kickoff session at the Center for Partner Development, where the students received an introduction to Whirlpool Innovation practices and the Gladiator line of garage storage and work solutions. That initiation was followed by a hands-on build day at Penn High School to familiarize students with Gladiator product and a recent work session where students investigated consumer insights and benefit exploration to help define the value proposition for their solutions for Gladiator-branded storage in a school.

P-H-M Education Foundation and Corporations for Education are proud to foster relations with P-H-M students and area businesses. Thank you to the Whirlpool Gladiator and Innovation management who spent several month mentoring the students.
